To clean the coffeemaker, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the unit is unplugged and cooled.
2. Open the one-piece cover and remove the filter basket by lifting it straight up.
3. Discard the paper filter from the filter basket.
4. Wash the filter basket, carafe, and carafe lid in the dishwasher (top rack only) or hand-wash them in warm, sudsy water.
5. To clean the inside of the one-piece cover, open the cover and allow it to rest in the open position.
6. Pull the showerhead out from under the guide, wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth, then place the showerhead back under the guide and close the cover.
7. If there are mineral deposits from hard water, it is recommended to clean the coffeemaker with vinegar once a month. Here's how:
a. Pour white vinegar into the water reservoir up to the 2-cup level on the water window.
b. Add cold water up to the 5-cup line.
c. Place a paper filter in the filter basket and close the cover.
d. Set the empty carafe on the "Keep Hot" carafe plate.
e. Turn on the coffeemaker and let half of the cleaning solution brew into the carafe (until the water level goes down to around 3). Turn off the coffeemaker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
f. Turn on the coffeemaker and brew the remaining cleaning solution into the carafe.
g. Turn off the coffeemaker, empty the carafe, and discard the soiled filter.
h. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the 5-cup line, replace the empty carafe, then turn on the coffeemaker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining cleaning solution. You may wish to repeat this step to eliminate any remaining vinegar smell or taste.
8. Wash the brew basket and carafe as instructed in the cleaning section.
Note: It is important to keep the carafe in good condition to avoid possible burns from hot liquid. Do not allow all liquid to evaporate from the carafe while on the "Keep Hot" carafe plate or heat the carafe when empty. Discard the carafe if damaged in any manner. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers, as they will scratch and weaken the glass.
