Installation of the HUMMINBIRD 532715-1 Stainless Steel Thru-Hull Transducer requires drilling a hole in the hull of your boat, so it is recommended to have the installation performed by a qualified marine technician. However, if you are comfortable with the installation process, you can follow the instructions provided in the installation guide.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install the transducer:
1. Read the entire transducer guide to understand the mounting guidelines and requirements before starting the installation.
2. Review your boat manufacturer's owner's manual for recommended transducer installation locations and cable routing methods. Take note of your boat's hull deadrise angle.
3. Test route the transducer cable connector to the control head to ensure that the cable is long enough for your planned route. Your boat may have a pre-existing wiring channel or conduit that you can use for the transducer cable.
4. Confirm that your boat is level for the installation.
5. Gather the necessary supplies for the installation, including a drill, small drill bit for pilot holes, 11/32" and 1 9/16" hole saws, a level, 1/2" socket driver or wrench, and marine-grade silicone sealant.
6. Prior to installation, test the transducer to ensure there is no damage. Connect the transducer cable connector to the transducer port on the control head and power on the control head. If the transducer is detected and working properly, power off the control head and unplug the transducer cable connector.
7. Determine the best mounting position for the transducer. The recommended location is aft midship, as close to the centerline of the boat as possible. Ensure there is no obstruction in front, behind, or to the side of the transducer within 12" (30.5 cm). The transducer should be mounted forward of the propellers on inboard boats and adequately separated from other transducers, strakes, rivet lines, or protrusions on the boat.
8. If your boat has a hull deadrise of 2 degrees or greater, use the included leveling block to level the transducer housing and direct the sonar signal straight down. The transducer must be parallel with the waterline.
9. Tape the mounting template at the selected mounting location on the hull.
10. Drill the necessary holes according to the instructions and measurements on the template. Clean and deburr the drilled holes and the outside of the hull.
11. Install the leveling block(s) according to your installation type. For a standard installation on a flat hull with a deadrise less than 2 degrees, install the leveling block outside the hull. For an alternate installation with a deadrise more than 2 degrees, cut the leveling block and install both pieces inside and outside the hull.
12. Feed the transducer cable through the drilled center hole and temporarily install the transducer to check the fit.
13. Apply marine-grade silicone sealant or slow-curing epoxy inside the drilled center hole and along the mating surfaces of the transducer housing and leveling block.
14. Insert the transducer into the drilled hole from outside the boat with the leveling block(s) installed. Make sure the rounded end of the transducer is facing the bow, pointing forward, and parallel to the centerline.
15. From inside the boat, install the large washer and nut onto the threaded stem. Hand tighten only.
16. Install the small washers and nuts onto the two anti-rotation bolts. Apply the included anti-seize compound to each bolt as you install the hardware.
17. Hand tighten the nuts onto the threaded transducer stem and anti-rotation bolts until the assembly is firmly seated. Do not overtighten the nuts.
18. Remove excess adhesive sealant from the outside of the hull to ensure smooth water flow over the transducer.
19. Route the transducer cable to the point where the control head is mounted, avoiding areas where it may be damaged or interfere with normal boating operations. Secure the cable as necessary.
20. Connect the transducer cable connector to the appropriate port on your control head, following the instructions for your specific model.
21. Test the transducer to ensure it is functioning properly before use.
Please note that this is a general guide, and it is important to refer to the specific instructions provided in the HUMMINBIRD 532715-1 Stainless Steel Thru-Hull Transducer Installation Guide for your specific installation requirements.
