To upgrade the RAM on the Packard Bell 795 motherboard, follow these steps:
1. Make sure you have the correct type of RAM module. The motherboard supports 168-pin DIMM modules.
2. Ensure that the DIMM module is gold-plated, as the motherboard sockets are also gold-plated, and oxidation must be prevented.
3. The motherboard supports either 3.3V EDO DRAM or unbuffered 3.3V SDRAM.
4. Both single- or double-sized DIMMs can be used.
5. EDO DIMMs can be up to 64MB in size, while SDRAM DIMMs can be up to 128MB.
6. The maximum total memory supported is 256MB, but only 64MB can be cached due to a limitation in the TX chipset. Installing more than 64MB of memory may actually slow down the system.
7. Memory type, size, and speed can vary between sockets, so EDO and SDRAM can be installed on the same motherboard.
8. It is not recommended to install parity (x72) DIMMs, as the motherboard does not provide parity checking or ECC, and parity DIMMs can cause excessive capacitive loading on memory data and address lines.
Please refer to the Packard Bell 795 motherboard user manual for more detailed instructions and specifications regarding RAM upgrades.
