Yes, you can install the DOUG S HEADERS D303Y-B 1 3/4 Header Metallic High-Temp on your vehicle if it meets the following criteria:
1. Pre-Pollution Controlled Vehicle: This product is legal for use on vehicles produced before emissions control regulations were imposed. It is considered legal for use on 1965 and older US manufactured California certified vehicles, 1967 and older US manufactured federally certified vehicles, and 1967 and older foreign manufactured vehicles.
2. Closed Course Competition Use or Pre-Emissions Controlled Vehicles: This product is legal for closed course competition use or pre-emissions controlled vehicles only. It is not legal for use on any emissions controlled vehicle for street or off-highway use.
Before proceeding with the installation, it is important to read and understand the instructions provided in the manual. Make sure you have received all the parts listed on the parts list and contact PerTronix if you have any concerns.
Factors such as worn or aftermarket motor mounts, previous accident damage, aftermarket cylinder heads, suspension and steering changes, and sagging of original unibody structures can affect the installation of exhaust headers. It is recommended to install all header bolts lightly snug and then tighten to factory torque specs starting in the center and working outward.
Ensure that the vehicle is cool, disconnect the battery, and spray a penetrating oil on all hardware and fittings that will need to be removed. Clean the sealing surface on the head of any old gasket debris or carbon build-up before installing the headers.
For disassembly, remove and mark all spark plug wires and spark plugs. If equipped, remove the smog pump AIR fittings from the manifolds. Disconnect the head pipes from the exhaust manifolds and remove the manifolds. Remove any gasket material or carbon deposits remaining on the head surface.
During assembly, install the headers from the bottom of the vehicle and slide them into place. Check for proper fit and clearance. Install the gaskets, header bolts, and lock washers supplied, and tighten them evenly. Install any accessories that were removed during the header installation. Install the reducers and connect them to the exhaust system. Weld the reducers to the exhaust system and install the spark plugs and wires.
If your vehicle has a smog pump and you ordered the headers with A.I.R. fittings, install the A.I.R. tubes at this time. Check for clearance of wiring, brake lines, hoses, etc., from the headers or any exhaust component. Finally, connect the negative battery cable.
After starting the engine and allowing it to warm up to operating temperature, check for any unusual noises or exhaust leaks. Tighten all bolts while the engine is still warm. It is recommended to periodically check the bolts to ensure they have not loosened and re-tighten them after the first 500 miles and then again at 1000 miles.
Please note that DOUGS HEADERS offers a limited warranty for their products. Any defects in material and workmanship are covered for one year from the date of purchase. However, damage or product failure resulting from collision, improper installation, off-road use, road hazards, the use of exhaust insulating wrap, or rust occurring after installation is not covered by the warranty.
