To program your GE QISMD-B1400 Backlit Universal Remote Control, you have two options: Direct Code Entry or Auto Code Search. Here are the step-by-step instructions for each method:
Direct Code Entry (Recommended):
1. Locate the Code List included with your remote and find the section for the type of device you want to control (e.g., TV, DVD, streaming media player).
2. Circle all the remote codes for the brand of your device.
3. Press and hold down the SETUP button on the remote until the red light turns on.
4. Release the SETUP button. The red light will remain on.
5. Press and release the device button on the remote for the type of device you want to control (e.g., TV, DVD).
6. The red light will blink once and remain on.
7. Use the number buttons on the remote to enter the first 4-digit remote code you circled in the Code List.
8. The red light will turn off after entering the fourth digit.
9. Point the remote at the device and test the buttons to see if the device responds. If not, repeat steps 5-8 with the next code for that device.
10. Repeat steps 5-9 for each device you want to control.
Auto Code Search:
1. Manually turn on the device you want to control.
2. Press and hold down the SETUP button on the remote until the red light turns on.
3. Release the SETUP button. The red light will remain on.
4. Press and release the device button on the remote for the type of device you want to control.
5. The red light will blink once and remain on.
6. With the remote pointed at the device, press and release the POWER button on the remote. The remote will send 10 different codes to the device.
7. The red light will blink once for each code and remain on after sending the 10 codes.
8. Did the device turn off?
- If YES, go to step 9.
- If NO, repeat step 6 to test the next 10 codes.
9. Manually turn the device back on.
10. With the remote pointed at the device, press and release the VOL+ button. The remote will re-send the first code of the 10 codes.
11. The red light will blink once and remain on.
12. Did the device turn off?
- If YES, you have found a code for the device. Press and release the same device button you pressed in step 4 to store the code in the remote.
- If NO, continue pressing and releasing the VOL+ button until the device turns off to test the other 9 codes.
13. Test the buttons on the remote to see if the device responds as expected.
14. Repeat steps 4-13 for each device you want to control.
Note: For combo devices (e.g., TV/DVD combo), you may need to set up separate codes for each device. Refer to the manual for more information on controlling combo devices.
