To check the level of hydraulic fluid in the WEN 56208 6.5-Ton Electric Log Splitter, follow these steps:
1. Carefully lift up on the handle of the log splitter so it is in the vertical position. Make sure the machine is stable and will not fall. Let it rest in this position for about 2 minutes so the fluid level can be checked properly.
2. Remove the fluid drain bolt located on the back side of the log splitter using a wrench or socket. Be prepared for hydraulic fluid to flow out.
3. Use a clean rag to wipe the dipstick clean of fluid.
4. Put the dipstick back in the tank (without screwing it in) and pull it out again.
5. Check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be between the two notches on the end of the dipstick and within about 1/4 inch of the upper notch.
6. Add fluid if the level is low. Wipe off the dipstick and check the fluid level again. Do not overfill.
7. Replace the dipstick and tighten the fluid drain bolt securely.
8. Lower the log splitter back into the horizontal position.
It is important to use the correct hydraulic fluid for the operating temperature. Use AW32 hydraulic fluid for temperatures above 40°F and Dexron® automatic transmission fluid for temperatures below 40°F.
