To install the Honeywell RTH221 Series programmable thermostat, follow these steps:
1. Turn off power to your heating/cooling system by either switching off the circuit breaker or using the power switch on the system.
2. Remove the old thermostat from the wall, but leave the wallplate with the wires attached.
3. Label the wires using the supplied wire labels as you disconnect them from the old thermostat.
4. Separate the wallplate from the new thermostat and mount the wallplate onto the wall using the included screws and anchors.
5. Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new thermostat. If the labels on the wires do not match the letters on the thermostat, refer to the "Alternate Wiring" section in the manual for instructions.
6. Install batteries in the thermostat if required.
7. Set the fan operation switch to the appropriate setting for your heating system.
8. Install the thermostat onto the wallplate.
9. Turn the power back on to your heating/cooling system.
10. If your system type is single stage heat and cool, heat only, or cool only, you are done. If your system type is a heat pump, high-efficiency furnace, hot water, electric furnace, gas/oil steam, or gravity system, continue with the advanced installation instructions in the manual to match your thermostat to your system type.
