To adjust the toast shade on the BLACK+DECKER TR1278RM 2-Slice Toaster, you can use the toast shade selector. The toast shade selector is located on the front of the toaster and has settings ranging from 1 to 7. Setting 1 will result in lighter toast, while setting 7 will result in darker toast. For first-time use, it is recommended to start with setting 4 (medium) and then adjust the setting to suit your personal preference on successive toasting operations.
