To configure the Applied Motion Products SWM24 Ethernet Integrated Steppers using the ST Configurator software, follow these steps:
1. Download and install the ST Configurator software from the Applied Motion Products website.
2. If you intend to connect the drive directly to your PC, configure your computer to use IP address 10.10.10.11. If you plan to connect the drive to a local area network (LAN), refer to the STM23 Hardware Manual for instructions.
3. Do not connect the Ethernet cable to the SWM24 before applying power. This will cause the drive to use its recovery address, assigning itself IP address 10.10.10.10. Refer to the SWM24 Hardware Manual for further details on selecting IP addresses for the drive and PC.
4. Launch the ST Configurator software by clicking: Start / All Programs / Applied Motion Products / ST Configurator.
5. Wire the drive to the DC power source, but do not apply power yet. The SWM24 accepts DC voltages from 12-70V. If using an external fuse, it is recommended to use a 5 amp fast-acting fuse. Refer to the SWM24 Hardware Manual for more information on power supply and fuse selection.
6. Connect I/O if required by your application using a 3004-290-5M cable. Refer to the SWM24 Hardware Manual for more information on wiring I/O to the SWM24.
7. Apply power to the drive. Wait for approximately 5 seconds, then connect the Ethernet cable to the network. If there is no valid network connection, the drive will default to its recovery address, 10.10.10.10.
8. In the ST Configurator software, select the "Ethernet" radio button in the center of the screen and specify the target IP address of 10.10.10.10. Click "Upload from drive" to retrieve the drive's configuration.
9. To specify a new IP address for the drive, select "Drive" -> "Edit IP Address Table" from the drop-down menus at the top of the screen.
10. Click the "Read from Drive" button to refresh the list. Note that only the first entry may be edited. Specify a new IP address in the fields provided.
11. Follow the configuration instructions in the ST Configurator screens. The software allows you to set up the drive to operate in different modes such as pulse & direction, velocity (oscillator), streaming commands (SCL), and Q programming mode.
12. The ST Configurator software includes a self-test option under the Drive menu to verify the correct wiring and configuration of the SWM24 and power supply.
13. Once you have completed the configuration, use the "Download to Drive" button to permanently save the configuration to the drive.
14. It is important to note that if the drive is connected to the network when power is applied, it will use the IP address specified in the IP address table. If not connected to a network, the drive will default to the recovery address of 10.10.10.10. This feature allows you to connect to the drive even if its IP address is not known.
