The installation of the SLEIPNER SEP170 Pro DC Electric Thruster should be done following the guidelines provided in the installation guide. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install the thruster:
1. Read the installation guide thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the product and installation requirements.
2. Ensure that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the installation. If you are not experienced in this type of work, it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional installer.
3. Before starting the installation, check with the boat builder to ensure that cutting any stiffener, stringer, or support will not compromise the hull integrity.
4. Paint the gear house and propellers with anti-fouling, except for the anodes, sealing, rubber fittings, and propeller shafts.
5. Ensure that there is only a thin coat of primer and two layers of anti-fouling between the tunnel and the props.
6. Never run the thruster out of water.
7. Install the thruster in a compartment that does not require ignition-proof electric equipment. If necessary, create a separate compartment.
8. If installing the thruster electric motor in a small compartment, ensure that it is well ventilated to allow for cooling of the motor.
9. If the height of the room is limited, the thruster can be installed horizontally or at any angle in-between. If the motor is positioned more than 30 degrees off vertical, it must be supported separately.
10. Ensure that the installation is within the advised measurements, and no part of the propeller or gear house is outside the tunnel.
11. Mount the electric motor, components, and cables in a way that they remain dry at all times.
12. Do not finish the inside of the tunnel with a layer of gel-coat or topcoat. There should only be a thin coat of primer and two layers of anti-fouling between the tunnel and the props.
13. Keep the electric motor away from easily flammable objects or equipment, as it can reach high temperatures.
14. Avoid storing items close to the thruster motor, as loose items can be a fire hazard and cause short-circuiting.
15. Do not lift the thruster by internal cable connections or main terminals.
16. Ensure that the thruster power supply circuit includes the recommended sized fuse and a battery isolation switch.
17. Handle the electric/hydraulic motor with care and avoid resting the motor on its drive shaft, as it can damage the shaft.
