To wire the Applied Motion Products ST5-10-S Stepper Motor Controller to a compatible stepper motor, please follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you have the necessary equipment, including a compatible stepper motor, a small flat blade screwdriver for tightening connectors (included), a personal computer running Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 or XP, Vista or 7/8/10/11, ST Configurator™ software (available at www.applied-motion.com), and an Applied Motion programming cable (included).
2. Download and install the ST Configurator™ software on your computer. You can find the software at www.applied-motion.com. Once installed, launch the software by clicking: Start / Programs / Applied Motion Products / ST Configurator.
3. Connect the Applied Motion Products ST5-10-S Stepper Motor Controller to your PC using the appropriate programming cable.
4. Wire the drive to the DC power source. It is important not to apply power until all connections to the drive have been made. The ST5-S accepts DC voltages from 24-48V, while the ST10-S accepts DC voltages from 24-80V. Ensure a proper earth ground connection by using the xxxx on the left side of the chassis. Refer to the ST5/10-S Hardware Manual for more information on power supply and fuse selection.
5. If you are using a non-Applied Motion motor, do not connect the motor until after you have configured the drive for your motor.
6. Connect the drive to the motor. Four-lead motors can be connected in only one way. We recommend connecting eight-lead motors in parallel. If using a non-Applied Motion Products motor, refer to your motor specifications for wiring information.
7. Refer to the ST5/10-S hardware manual for recommended I/O voltages and currents, and wire the I/O accordingly.
8. Launch the ST Configurator software and select the correct com. port from the pulldown menu.
9. Apply power to the drive.
10. Follow the configuration instructions in the ST Configurator™ help screens. The software allows you to set up your drive to operate in several different modes, including Pulse & Direction, Analog Velocity, and SCL.
