To install the Motive 3002 Vehicle Gateway Cable, please follow these steps:
1. Ensure the vehicle is safe to install the Motive Vehicle Gateway:
- Engage the parking brake.
- Turn off the engine.
- If available, turn off the main power switch.
2. Locate the 9-Pin port:
- The port is usually located on the driver's side underneath the dash panel.
- It is typically black or green in color.
3. If your vehicle requires a Y-cable:
- Request a Y-cable from Motive.
- Motive recommends using only one Y-cable per vehicle when necessary.
- The Y-cable comes with two unique harness mounts: a square mount with screws and a threaded mount with a nut.
4. Attach the 9-Pin Y-cable to the vehicle's 9-Pin port:
- Replace the vehicle's exposed 9-Pin port with the matching end of the 9-Pin Y-cable.
5. Connect and secure the 9-Pin end of the Motive cable to the vehicle's 9-Pin port:
- Use the zip ties provided to secure the cables.
6. Attach the 15-pin connector to the Vehicle Gateway:
- Secure the 15-pin connector onto the Vehicle Gateway using the thumbscrews.
- Clean the mounting area using the provided alcohol swabs.
- Remove the backing from the adhesive strip on the back of the Vehicle Gateway.
- Attach the Vehicle Gateway to the mounting area.
7. Choose an appropriate location for the Vehicle Gateway:
- Motive recommends installing it near the windshield, away from vents, electrical components, and at least 12 inches away from any metal components.
- Alternative locations, such as the wheel well, are acceptable as long as the aforementioned requirements are met.
- Ensure all cabling and devices are secured to avoid interfering with the safe operation of the vehicle.
8. Once plugged in, the indicator lights will show the following:
- Momentary flashing before turning solid red.
- After approximately one minute, the left-side indicator light will turn green, indicating a successful GPS connection.
- Note that GPS/GNSS performance may degrade if the Vehicle Gateway does not have a clear line of sight to the sky.
9. When the driver connects to the Vehicle Gateway using the Motive Electronic Logbook App:
- The right-side indicator light will turn green, indicating a successful Bluetooth connection.
- For more details on the Motive mobile platform, please refer to the Motive Driver App Guide.
