To connect the Applied Motion Products SWM24-SF/QF Integrated Steppers to your computer and power supply, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you have the necessary equipment, including a 12-70V DC power supply, a personal computer running Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT, XP, Vista or 7/8/10/11, the ST Configurator™ software (available at www.applied-motion.com/products/software), and the required cables (3004-277-5M power cable, 3004-290-5M I/O cable, or a 3004-278-5M RS-232 programming cable).
2. Download and install the ST Configurator™ software on your computer. You can find the software at www.applied-motion.com/products/software. Once installed, launch the software by clicking: Start / Programs / Applied Motion Products / ST Configurator.
3. Select the correct COM port using the drop-down list in the ST Configurator™ software.
4. Connect the drive to your PC using the RS-232 programming cable.
5. Wire the drive to the DC power source. Make sure not to apply power until Step 3. The SWM24 accepts DC voltages from 12-70V. If using an external fuse, it is recommended to use a 5 amp fast-acting fuse. Refer to the SWM24 Hardware Manual for more information on power supply and fuse selection.
6. If required by your application, connect the I/O using the 3004-290-5M cable. Refer to the SWM24 Hardware Manual for detailed information on wiring I/O to the SWM24.
7. Apply power to the drive. The drive model and firmware revision should be automatically displayed. If not, check the COM port setting.
8. Follow the configuration instructions provided in the ST Configurator™ help screens. The software allows you to set up your drive to operate in various modes, such as Pulse & Direction, Analog Velocity, and SCL.
9. The ST Configurator™ software also includes a self-test option (under the Drive menu) that can be used to verify the correct wiring and configuration of the STM and power supply.
