To connect the Applied Motion Products STF-EC EtherCAT Stepper Drives to your PC, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you have a PC running Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/8/10/11 (32-bit or 64-bit) operating system.
2. Download the STF Configurator software from the Applied Motion Products website (www.applied-motion.com/products/software) and install it on your PC.
3. Connect the drive to a DC power supply.
4. Connect the drive to a compatible stepper motor. If you are using a four-lead motor, connect it in the specified way. If you are using an eight-lead motor, you can connect it in series or parallel, as shown in the user guide.
5. Use the RS-232 cable provided to connect the drive's port J3 to your PC's serial port. If your PC does not have an RS-232 serial port, you will need a USB to RS-232 Serial Converter. Applied Motion Products recommends using their USB-serial adapter, model 3004-235.
6. Run the STF Configurator software on your PC and select the corresponding COM port in the software.
7. Apply power to the drive.
8. The software will recognize the drive and display the model and firmware version.
9. Click "Yes" to upload the drive configuration.
10. Configure your motor parameters. Applied Motion Products' motors can be selected from the standard motor drop-down list in the software.
11. Configure the drive control settings and I/O functions according to your requirements.
12. When you are ready to test your configuration, click "Download All to Drive" in the software.
Please note that for connecting the EtherCAT, you will need to refer to the connection guide on the Applied Motion Products website. The drive has dual RJ-45 connectors that accept standard Ethernet cables. CAT5 or CAT5e (or higher) cables should be used for the connection. The IN port connects to a master or the OUT port of an upstream node, while the OUT port connects to a downstream node. If the drive is the last node on a network, only the IN port is used. No terminator is required on the OUT port.
For further assistance or detailed instructions, please refer to the Applied Motion Products STF-EC EtherCAT Stepper Drives User Guide.
