To properly inspect and use the Crosby S-4338 Pin Latch, follow these guidelines:
1. Always inspect the hook and pin latch before using. Do not use a pin latch that is distorted or bent.
2. Make sure the internal spring will force the pin latch forward, closing the throat opening of the grab hook.
3. The pin latch is designed to retain loose chain under slack conditions.
4. Ensure that the hook supports the load, and the pin latch must never support the load.
5. The pin latch is not intended to be an anti-fouling device.
6. It is recommended to use the Crosby S-4338 Pin Latch with Crosby L-1338 or L-1358 Grab Hooks.
To assemble the pin latch, follow these steps:
Step 1: Using a hammer and the correct roll-pin punch (refer to the chart provided), drive the old latch pin assembly out of the hook.
Step 2: Insert the new S-4338 pin assembly into the hook.
Step 3: Using a hammer, tap lightly on the latch pin head until the guide bushing shoulder touches the hook.
Important Safety Information:
- Failure to follow proper procedures may result in loads disengaging from the hook, causing serious injury or death.
- Always ensure that the hook supports the load and never support the load with the pin latch.
- This style of hook and latch must not be used for lifting personnel, as per OSHA Rule 1926.1431(g)(1)(i)(A) and 1926.1501(g)(4)(iv)(B).
- It is crucial to read and understand these instructions before using the hook and pin latch.
Please refer to the Crosby S-4338 Pin Latch Instruction Manual for more detailed information and illustrations.
