To make a solder joint using PEGLER Yorkshire General Range fittings, follow these steps:
1. Cut the copper tube square using a rotary tube cutter or a fine-toothed hacksaw.
2. Remove any burrs from the inside and outside of the tube ends using a fine-toothed file or a de-burring tool.
3. Clean the inside of the fitting socket and the outside of the tube using a Yorkshire cleaning pad, fine sandpaper, or steel wool.
4. Apply an adequate amount of flux to both the outside surface of the tube and the inside surface of the fitting socket using a suitable brush. Do not use your finger to apply the flux.
5. Insert the tube into the fitting until it reaches the tube stop, ensuring that the tubes are correctly lined up and adequately supported.
6. Heat the assembled joint using a suitable heat source, such as a torch, until a complete ring of solder appears at the mouth of the fitting. The solder will fill the gap between the fitting and the tube through capillary action.
7. Allow the joint to cool without disturbance.
8. Clean the joint, wiping off any external flux residues to prevent unsightly stains or corrosion.
9. Flush the system, preferably with hot water, to remove any flux residues.
Note: It is important to select the correct size of tube and fitting for the job and ensure they are clean and in good condition. Adequate ventilation should be maintained during heating, and any joints not heated during the working day should be dismantled, cleaned, and refluxed prior to reassembly.
