To defrost and clean your Whirlpool WZC3115DW Chest Freezer, please follow these steps:
1. Unplug the freezer or disconnect the power.
2. Remove all frozen food from the freezer. Wrap the food in several layers of newspaper and cover it with a blanket to keep it frozen. Alternatively, you can store the food in a cooler or another freezer.
3. Remove the drain cover by pulling it straight out. Insert the hose adapter (provided) into the drain outlet and remove the plastic cap from inside the bottom of the freezer. Place a pan under the drain or attach a hose to the threaded end of the hose adapter and direct the water into a separate drain.
4. Place pans of hot water in the freezer with the lid open to speed up the melting process. You can also direct air from an electric fan into the freezer to help with defrosting. Do not place any electrical devices inside the freezer.
5. Use a plastic scraper to remove the frost from the walls of the freezer. Do not use sharp-pointed tools, as they can damage the freezer.
6. Wipe the walls with a towel or sponge to remove any remaining water.
7. Wash the inside walls with a solution of mild detergent in warm water or a mixture of 2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners.
8. Rinse the walls well and wipe them dry with a clean, soft cloth.
9. Use a clean sponge or soft cloth with mild detergent in warm water to clean the outside of the freezer, door liner, and gasket.
10. Rinse well and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth.
11. Wax painted metal surfaces on the outside of the freezer to prevent rust. Do not use wax on plastic parts, as it may damage them.
12. Remove the hose adapter and replace the drain cover and plastic cap in the bottom of the freezer.
13. Replace all frozen food in the freezer.
14. If your freezer is equipped with a temperature alarm, turn off the alarm for 24 hours after defrosting.
15. Plug in the freezer or reconnect the power.
Note: It is recommended to defrost and clean your freezer when frost has built up to about 1/4" thickness or at least once a year. In high humidity areas, more frequent defrosting and cleaning may be necessary.
