To properly install the SPECK X pumps Swimming Pool and Spa Pump, please follow these steps:
1. Before starting the installation, make sure to read and understand the owner's manual provided with the pump.
2. Ensure that the pump is installed and serviced by a qualified pool professional who is familiar with national, state, and local codes.
3. Check the California Energy Commission website to ensure that the pump is listed for use in residential pools in California, if applicable.
4. Make sure the pump is installed in a location that is well-ventilated, protected from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, and easily accessible for service and maintenance.
5. Connect the pump to a branch circuit that is protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). If you are unsure if the circuit is protected by a GFCI, contact a qualified electrician to verify.
6. Ensure that the pump is connected to a supply circuit that is bonded to all metal parts of the swimming pool, spa, or hot tub structure, as well as to all electrical equipment, metal conduit, and metal piping within 5 feet of the inside walls of the swimming pool, spa, or hot tub.
7. Use the provided copper bonding connector to bond the motor to all metal parts of the swimming pool, spa, or hot tub structure and to all electrical equipment, metal conduit, and metal piping within 5 feet of the inside walls of the swimming pool, spa, or hot tub if the motor is installed within 5 feet of the inside walls.
8. Ensure that the pump is connected to a supply circuit that is protected by a GFCI. Test the GFCI regularly to ensure it is functioning properly.
9. Follow the recommended pipe sizing guidelines to ensure proper flow and prevent cavitation. Use thread seal tape when connecting piping to the pump's threaded ports and ensure proper solvent-weld connections for hard-plumbed pipes.
10. Install the pump as close to the pool as possible for trouble-free self-priming. Consult local codes for the minimum distance between the pool and pump.
11. Provide proper support and independent support for the suction and discharge lines near the pump to avoid strains on the pump. Use properly sized valves.
12. Before starting the pump for the first time, remove the see-through lid and fill the strainer tank with water until it is level with the suction inlet. Replace the lid with the locking ring, hand-tightening it to make an airtight seal.
13. Ensure that the pump is properly grounded and bonded according to the manufacturer's instructions.
14. Test the pump to ensure it is priming properly and pumping water before fully completing the installation.
15. Keep the area around the pump clear for future service and maintenance.
