To install the GATOR msk5912 Fasteners Heavy Duty Main Stud Kit on your Dodge 5.9L Cummins Diesel, please follow the steps outlined in the installation guide provided. Here is a summary of the installation process:
1. Before starting the installation, make sure to read the instructions thoroughly. If you are not confident in completing the task, it is recommended to seek professional help.
2. Clean and inspect the studs, washers, and nuts to ensure they are free of shipping damage and defects. Clean all threads in the block using a thread chaser to ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings.
3. Lubricate the threads of the head studs and install them into the block. xxxx them in hand tight and ensure they are all the same length. If one is taller, remove it, clean the threads in the block, and reinstall.
4. Install the head gaskets and cylinder heads, checking for any misalignment.
5. Install the push rods and ensure they are fully seated into the tappets.
6. Install the modified/milled rocker arm assembly (MRAP5912 or have your stock pedestals machined) with adjusters backed off.
7. Place head stud washers onto the head studs. Lubricate the top of the head stud washers and head stud threads with assembly lube. Lubricate the rocker arm pedestal bolt threads and install them hand tight.
8. Snug all head stud nuts and the 8mm rocker arm pedestal bolts. Then, follow the torque sequence in a 3-step process for the head stud nuts: 45 ft-lbs, 90 ft-lbs, and 125 ft-lbs.
9. Check that the amount of head stud threads showing above the head stud nut is about the same. If one appears to have more thread, the stud may not be fully inserted into the head.
10. Once the head stud nuts are torqued, torque the rocker arm pedestal bolts to 25 ft-lbs.
11. If necessary, mill a step in all six pedestals to the specified amount, ensuring it is parallel with the bottom of each rocker arm pedestal.
12. Verify that the rocker arm pedestal head stud installed height is within the specified range. If needed, tap the threads deeper in the block or modify the thread counterbore to achieve the correct height.
