To clean the Hamilton Beach 40998 Electric Tea Kettle, follow these steps:
1. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders as they may scratch the smooth surface of the kettle.
2. Interior Cleaning: Empty the kettle after each use to avoid scale/lime deposit buildup. If there is discoloration or scale/lime deposit on the heating element, follow these steps:
a. Place 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar (available in the spice aisle of the grocery store) into the kettle.
b. Fill the kettle halfway with water.
c. Plug in the kettle, turn it ON (I), and bring it to a boil.
d. Turn OFF (O), let it cool, and rinse several times with clean tap water.
3. Mesh Filter Cleaning: The mesh filter prevents suspended particles from being poured out of the kettle. To clean the filter, unplug the kettle and allow it to cool. The mesh filter can be removed by pulling upwards on the tab visible through the kettle opening. Rinse the filter under running water and brush it with a soft brush. A small, soft-bristle brush works well. To replace the mesh filter, slide it back into the slots and snap it into place. The filter will fit only one way.
Important Note: Do not immerse the kettle, power base, or plug in water or any other liquid.
The cleaning instructions provided above are based on the Hamilton Beach 40998 Electric Tea Kettle Instruction Manual.
