You will know when to recharge the batteries when you notice that your light is not as bright as it used to be. If you are using a solar panel, you can easily tell when it is time to recharge your batteries because the solar panel will not be able to keep up with charging your batteries during daylight hours. You can also use a voltmeter or multimeter to check and see if your batteries are fully charged or not.
