To clean the Opal countertop nugget ice maker, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the ice maker and remove the drip tray.
2. If present, remove the filter and replace it with the reservoir's screened intake cap.
3. Drain the Opal by following the detailed instructions on page 9 of the user manual.
4. Plug in the Opal and slide the rear switch to the "Clean" position. The display ring will light up yellow and pulse.
5. Create a solution of five cups of water and one teaspoon of household bleach.
6. Pour the solution into the water reservoir.
7. Touch the display button to start the cleaning process. The light will start to spin, and you will hear water circulating. After three minutes, the water will stop, and the light will begin to pulse again.
8. When the light pulses, drain the Opal by unhooking the top of the drain hoses at the back of the unit and allowing the water to drain into a sink or bucket. Remove the plugs and let the water completely drain.
9. Once the water stops flowing, re-insert the drain plugs.
10. Add five cups of fresh water to the water reservoir and touch the button. The light ring is divided into four sections to indicate each stage. Successive quarters of the ring will become brighter with each rinse cycle.
11. Rinse three times with fresh water by repeating steps 7 to 10 three more times, adding fresh water to the reservoir each time.
12. When complete, slide the rear switch back to "Ice" mode.
Note: It is important not to use soap to clean the water reservoir and to wait at least one hour after use before cleaning the Opal.
