The STEVAL-IFP044V1 expansion board can be powered in two ways.
1. The board can be powered by the STM32 Nucleo development board through the Arduino UNO R3 connectors. The STM32 Nucleo board supplies the expansion board with either 3.3V or 5V generated by the USB. You can select the preferred voltage on the expansion board by using the SW3 switch. Close pins 1-2 for 3.3V or close pins 2-3 for 5V.
2. Alternatively, you can supply power to the STM32 Nucleo development board by connecting an external supply voltage (7-12V) to the CN2 connector on the expansion board. In this case, you need to close the ground loop by either mounting the D2 diode (to enable reverse polarity protection) or closing the J17 jumper (without reverse polarity protection).
Please refer to Section 1.1.1 "Digital section" and Section 1.1.2 "Power section" of the user manual for more detailed instructions and diagrams.
