To install the First Alert 1044807 Z-Wave Smoke Detector Alarm, please follow these steps:
1. Choose the location: Determine where you want to install the smoke detector alarm. It is recommended to install one on every floor, in every sleeping area, and in every bedroom. Also, consider installing additional alarms in rooms, halls, and storage areas where temperatures normally remain between 40˚ F and 100˚ F.
2. Prepare the mounting bracket: Hold the base firmly and twist the mounting bracket counterclockwise (left) to separate it from the unit.
3. Mark the mounting holes: Hold the mounting bracket against the ceiling or wall, aligning the vertical mounting slot in the 12 o'clock position. Trace around the inside of the mounting slots.
4. Drill the holes: Using a 3/16" or 5mm drill bit, drill a hole through the center of the traced outlines.
5. Install the plastic xxxx anchors: Insert the plastic xxxx anchors into the holes and tap them gently with a hammer until they are flush with the ceiling or wall.
6. Attach the mounting bracket: Line up the mounting bracket over the xxxx anchors and xxxx it to the ceiling or wall through the mounting slots using the provided screws.
7. Insert the batteries: Before attaching the smoke detector alarm to the mounting bracket, insert two AA batteries (included) into the battery compartment. Make sure to match the terminals on the batteries with the terminals on the unit.
8. Attach the smoke detector alarm: Line up the guides on the alarm's base with the guides on the mounting bracket. Turn the base clockwise (right) until it snaps into place.
9. Test the smoke detector alarm: Press and hold the Test/Silence button on the alarm cover for 3-5 seconds to test the unit. The horn will sound, and the LEDs will indicate the test results. If the unit does not alarm, make sure the batteries are correctly installed and test again. If it still does not alarm, replace the unit immediately.
10. Regular maintenance: Test the smoke detector alarm at least once a week and clean it monthly using a vacuum or compressed air. Replace the batteries as needed and replace the unit if it becomes contaminated or fails to function properly.
