The Celestron NexStar 60 SLT Computerized Telescope comes partially assembled and can be operational in a matter of minutes. Here are the steps to assemble the telescope:
1. Remove all of the accessories from their individual boxes and save the containers for transportation.
2. Attach the accessory tray to the tripod legs by placing it on top of the tripod center support brace and rotating it so that the central hole in the tray slides over the flange post in the center of the support bracket. Rotate the tray so that the locking tabs slide under the locking clips on the support bracket.
3. Level the tripod and adjust the height of the tripod legs by loosening the leg locking bolts, sliding the inner portion of each leg down 6-8 inches, adjusting the tripod height until the bubble level on the tripod leg is centered, and tightening the leg locking bolts to hold each leg in place.
4. Attach the snap-on hand control holder to any of the tripod legs by positioning the holder with the square plastic tab facing up and pushing it against the tripod leg until it snaps into place.
5. Place the fork arm base inside the tripod mounting platform and thread the coupling xxxx into the hole at the bottom of the fork arm base. Hand tighten the xxxx to secure the fork arm to the tripod.
6. Attach the telescope tube to the fork arm by loosening the tube clamp tightening xxxx , sliding the dovetail mounting bar of the telescope tube into the fork arm clamp, and tightening the tube clamp xxxx by hand to secure the tube to the fork arm.
7. If you have the NexStar 60, 80, or 102mm model, you can attach the star diagonal by turning the thumbscrew on the eyepiece adapter at the end of the focuser barrel until it no longer obstructs the inner diameter of the focus barrel. Slide the chrome portion of the star diagonal into the eyepiece adapter and tighten the thumbscrew to hold the star diagonal in place.
8. Install the eyepiece by loosening the thumbscrew on the star diagonal (for 60, 80, and 102mm models) or the eyepiece adapter (for 114 and 130mm models), sliding the chrome portion of the eyepiece into the star diagonal or eyepiece adapter, and tightening the thumbscrew to hold the eyepiece in place.
9. Focus the telescope by turning either of the focus knobs at the eyepiece end of the optical tube until the image is sharp.
10. Attach the Star Pointer finderscope by sliding it onto the dovetail mounting platform on top of the focuser assembly and tightening the mounting xxxx to secure it in place.
11. Attach the hand control by plugging the phone jack connector at the end of its cord into the outlet at the base of the telescope's fork arm. Place the hand control into its holder on the tripod leg.
12. Power the telescope by installing 8 AA size alkaline batteries into the battery compartment or using an optional 12v AC adapter.
Your Celestron NexStar 60 SLT Computerized Telescope is now fully assembled and ready to use. For more detailed instructions and information, please refer to the user guide provided with the telescope.
