Sure! Here are the step-by-step instructions for installing the August Home 1st Generation Smart Lock:
1. Prepare your existing deadbolt: Affix the supplied adhesive strip over the keyhole on the exterior side of your door to hold it in place. Remove the existing thumb latch and any additional back plate if present.
2. Select the correct mounting plate and adapter: If you know the brand of your deadbolt, refer to the Compatibility Chart in the user guide to select the correct mounting plate and adapter. If your deadbolt is not listed, select the adapter that fits your tailpiece by sliding each adapter onto the tailpiece until the correct one is found.
3. Position the mounting plate: Remove the backing from the rubber bumpers and place them on the back side of the mounting plate. Install the mounting plate over the existing deadbolt tailpiece using the screws from the thumb latch. Do not fully tighten the screws.
4. Position the adapter and align the mounting plate: Remove the tape from the keyhole and turn your deadbolt to the fully unlocked position using your key. Place the correct adapter onto the tailpiece with the small nub pointing up. Tighten the screws until they are just tight.
5. Attach the August Smart Lock: Insert the adapter into the back of the smart lock and position it with the curved notch at the top. Pull out both side wing latches and slide the smart lock over the tailpiece, attaching it to the mounting plate. Ensure that the back of the lock is flush with the door. Clamp down both side wing latches to secure the smart lock.
6. Remove the battery tab: Press down on the faceplate and rotate it counterclockwise to open the battery compartment. Remove the plastic battery isolation tab while holding the batteries in place. Ensure that the batteries are properly seated in their compartment.
7. Align the faceplate hooks with the smart lock: The faceplate will lock into place with the logo at the bottom.
8. Install the August App: Download the August App from august.com/app to create an account and set up your smart lock.
