To properly install the shadow-caster SCM-4-UB-20 Underwater Light 4 LED, follow these steps:
1. Choose a mounting location: The light should be installed on a flat surface area that is frequently submerged, splashed, or sprayed. Avoid mounting the light on the bottom of the hull to prevent damage and drag.
2. Use the provided template: The template can be used to find an appropriate mounting location. Verify that the template matches the mounting holes on the light. Mark the center drill location with a pencil and remove the template.
3. Drill a 5/8" diameter hole for the cable: Drill the hole in the center hole location only, as shown on the template.
4. Use a foam or rubber spacer for galvanic isolation: If mounting to an aluminum hull, use a foam or rubber spacer to prevent corrosion.
5. Feed the cable through the hull into the boat.
6. Mark and drill the mounting holes: With the light against the hull in the desired location, use the actual mounting holes of the light to mark one mounting hole. Drill that hole with an appropriately sized drill. Then, mark and drill the last mounting hole.
7. Check mounting hole alignment: Check the mounting hole alignment with the light against the hull. If the mounting holes are not easily visible through the holes in the light, ream the center hole for the cable until the light can be aligned with the mounting holes.
8. Apply sealant: Place a sufficient amount of silicone or 3M 4200 marine sealant on the hull around all three holes to seal them against the light's base plate. Fill the xxxx holes with sealant as well.
9. Mount the light: Use the provided screws to mount the light to the hull. If alternate screws are used, they must be passivated 316 stainless steel.
10. Install wiring: Route the wire through the boat in a manner that keeps it out of standing water and protected from excessive heat or abrasion. Route the wire to a switch rated at a minimum of twice the continuous current draw. The red wire is positive, and the black wire is ground. The lights must be wired through a fuse or circuit breaker.
11. PWM control wire: The blue wire is the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control wire. This wire is used to control strobing and dimming functions integrated into the light. Contact Shadow-Caster Marine LED Lighting to purchase a compatible controller or dimming.
Please note that these instructions are a summary of the installation process. For more detailed information and diagrams, refer to the shadow-caster SCM-4-UB-20 Underwater Light 4 LED Owner's Manual.
