To install the Robertshaw RS8210 thermostat, follow these steps:
1. Turn off power to the heating/cooling system by unscrewing the fuse or switching off the circuit breaker.
2. Remove the old thermostat, but leave the wallplate with wires attached.
3. Label the existing wires using the supplied wire labels as you disconnect them.
4. Separate the wallplate from the new thermostat and mount it onto the wall, ensuring it is 4-5 feet above the floor and in an area with good air circulation.
5. Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new wallplate, matching the wire labels. If the labels do not match the letters on the thermostat, refer to the "Alternate Wiring (Conventional Systems)" section in the manual for guidance.
6. Do not overtighten the terminal block screws to avoid damaging the terminal block.
7. Power supply options: Use either the O or B terminals for reversing the valve, and if available, connect the C wire to the C terminal for optional 24 VAC common connection.
8. If you have a heat pump without auxiliary/backup heat, connect either the O or B wire, not both. If you do not have a heat pump, do not connect the B wire.
9. Place a jumper (a piece of wire) between the Y and W terminals if you are using a heat pump without auxiliary/backup heat.
10. Once the wiring is complete, mount the thermostat onto the wallplate by aligning the tabs and pushing gently until it snaps into place.
11. If using battery power, install two AAA alkaline batteries in the thermostat. This is optional if the thermostat is connected to AC power.
12. Set the time of day and day of the week by following the instructions in the "Programming" section of the manual.
Note: It is important to read the entire manual before installing or programming the thermostat to ensure proper installation and usage. Always turn off power before working on the thermostat, and follow local and national building and electrical codes.
