To assemble the Celestron 21062 AstroMaster 70EQ Refractor Telescope, please follow these steps:
1. Start by unpacking the telescope and its accessories, making sure all parts are present according to the parts list provided in the user guide.
2. Begin with assembling the tripod:
a. Loosen the hand knobs at the bottom of each leg and extend the inner section of the leg to the desired length.
b. Tighten the knobs to secure the legs, being careful not to over-tighten.
c. Stand the tripod upright and pull the tripod legs apart until the center brace snaps into place.
d. Place the accessory tray on top of the center brace, aligning the keyed hole in the center. Rotate the tray until the tabs at the three points of the tray snap into the holders on each arm of the tripod's center brace.
3. Attach the equatorial mount to the tripod:
a. Set the protrusion base of the equatorial mount into the indentation on the top of the tripod head.
b. Use the large hand xxxx under the tripod head to secure the mount to the tripod. Thread until snug, but do not overtighten.
c. Thread the latitude adjustment xxxx into the threaded hole on the back of the mount. Only thread it in a short way, as you will adjust this xxxx later.
4. Attach the counterweight bar and counterweights:
a. xxxx the counterweight bar into the threaded hole on the bottom of the declination axis of the mount.
b. Remove the orange counterweight safety xxxx from the bottom end of the counterweight bar.
c. Loosen the large black locking xxxx on the side of the counterweight. Make sure the hole through the counterweight is unobstructed.
d. Slide the counterweight onto the counterweight shaft about halfway, then tighten the locking xxxx to hold the counterweight in place. If your telescope comes with more than one counterweight, add the second weight in the same manner as the first.
e. Replace the orange counterweight safety xxxx onto the bottom of the counterweight shaft to prevent the counterweight from falling off if it accidentally comes loose.
5. Install the slow-motion control knobs:
a. Locate the two slow-motion control knobs in the box. Both knobs are identical, so it does not matter which one you use on each axis.
b. Loosen the set xxxx on the end of one of the knobs.
c. Slide it onto the end of the RA gear shaft as far as it will go and tighten the set xxxx to secure it in place. The RA xxxx can be used on either the left or right side of the mount, based on your preference.
d. Slide the other xxxx onto the DEC gear shaft and tighten the set xxxx to secure it.
6. Attach the telescope tube to the mount:
a. Loosen the two mounting knobs located on the side of the dovetail mounting bracket on the top of the equatorial mount.
b. Slide the dovetail bar on the telescope tube into the mounting bracket, making sure the dovetail is fully seated inside the bracket.
c. Tighten both mounting knobs to hold the telescope in place.
7. Attach the finderscope:
a. Loosen the two Philips-head screws on the side of the finderscope and slide the clamp over the dovetail bracket near the telescope focuser. The large window on the finder should be facing the front of the telescope.
b. Secure the finderscope in place by tightening the two Philips-head screws. Do not over tighten these screws, just make the connection snug.
c. Remove the small plastic tab under the battery cover to activate the finderscope.
8. Your Celestron 21062 AstroMaster 70EQ Refractor Telescope is now assembled and ready to use. Refer to the user guide for instructions on aligning the finderscope, balancing the telescope, and other tips for observing celestial objects.
Note: It is important to read and follow all safety warnings and guidelines provided in the user guide, especially regarding solar observation and proper use of filters.
