To install the Sterling Power BB12120 Battery to Battery Charger, please follow these step-by-step instructions:
1. Read the entire user manual: Before starting the installation, it is important to thoroughly read and understand the user manual provided with the product. This will ensure that you have all the necessary information and guidelines for a successful installation.
2. Choose the installation location: Select a suitable location for mounting the BB12120 charger. It should be a well-ventilated, dry, dust-free, and condensation-free area. The charger can be mounted in any orientation, but if the area is prone to getting wet or damp, it is recommended to choose a higher installation position.
3. Disconnect the main supply and battery leads: Before transporting or moving the unit, make sure to disconnect the main supply and battery leads. This will prevent any damage during transportation.
4. Connect the input and output batteries: Use the provided cables to connect the input battery (starter battery) to the left large green connector on the BB12120 charger. Ensure that the cable thickness is 16mm2 / 2AWG and that it is fused at approximately 80A. Connect the output battery (domestic/service/auxiliary battery) to the right large green connector on the charger using a similar-sized cable.
5. Connect the common negative cables: Use the two central connectors on the BB12120 charger to connect the common negative cables. Connect the left GND connector to the input battery's negative and the right GND connector to the output battery's negative. Use a similar-sized cable for the positive connection.
6. Optional connections: If desired, you can make use of the additional connectors on the charger. The 12V output connector can be used to trigger an operation or provide a 12V signal. The ignition feed connector can be used for Euro 6/Smart alternator use. The alarm connector can be used to relay a 12V signal or connect an audible alarm or light to indicate a fault.
7. Temperature sensor connection: If you have a temperature sensor, connect it to the temperature sensor connector (TEMP1) on the charger. The temperature sensor should be connected to the negative terminal of the output battery. The temperature sensor compensates for voltage delivery based on the sensor's temperature.
8. Power on and configure: Once all the connections are made, power on the BB12120 charger. The LED panel on the charger will display the charging profiles and status. You can configure the charger for different battery types by pressing and holding the Select button for 5 seconds and then toggling through the options using the Select button.
9. Test and troubleshoot: After installation, test the charger by checking the input and output voltages at the charger's terminals. Ensure that the input voltage is above 13.5V for the charger to turn on and start charging. Troubleshoot any issues by referring to the troubleshooting section in the user manual.
