To clean the Proctor Silex 49969 Single Serve Coffee Maker, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool.
2. Routine Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp, soapy cloth.
3. Cleaning the Reservoir: Pour 1/2 cup (118 ml) of plain white vinegar and 1/2 cup (118 ml) of cold water into the reservoir. Place a cup underneath to catch the water/vinegar solution. Press the BREW button once. After 30 seconds, unplug the unit and allow the vinegar to clean. After 30 minutes, plug in the unit and let it finish the brew cycle. When the brew cycle is finished, wait for the unit to cool. Empty the cup and rinse. Repeat steps 1-4 with 1 cup (237 ml) of cold tap water.
4. Cleaning the Needle: The needle is located in the lid of the coffee maker. Bend a small paper clip and insert the tip through the hole/eye of the needle and up into the needle to ensure grounds have been removed. Brew 2 or 3 times with cold water to make sure grounds have been removed from the piercing needle.
5. Dishwasher-Safe Parts: The removable single-serve pack holder, brew basket, and removable holder for ground coffee are all dishwasher-safe. Do not use the "SANI" setting when washing in the dishwasher, as it could damage the product.
6. Cord Storage: Push the cord into the back of the coffee maker for easy storage.
It is recommended to clean the coffee maker at least once a month (once a week for areas with hard water) to maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan.
