Cleaning your Keurig K-50 Classic Coffee Maker is important to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Here are the instructions for cleaning the different parts of the coffee maker:
1. Brewer Exterior: Clean the exterior of the brewer with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Avoid immersing the brewer in water or other liquids.
2. Drip Tray: The drip tray can hold up to 8 ounces of overflow and should be emptied and cleaned occasionally. To remove the drip tray, slide it toward you while keeping it level to avoid spilling. Clean it in the dishwasher (top rack only) or rinse and clean with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.
3. K-Cup® Pod Holder: To remove the K-Cup® pod holder from the brewer, lift the handle and grasp the top of the holder with one hand while pushing up on the bottom from underneath with the other hand until it releases. After cleaning, align the holder with the opening using the two front ribs as a guide and snap it back into place from the top.
4. Funnel: The funnel can be removed from the K-Cup® pod holder by pulling on it until it pops off. To replace it, snap it back onto the holder.
5. Water Reservoir & Reservoir Lid: Periodically clean the water reservoir lid and reservoir with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth and rinse thoroughly. Do not put them in the dishwasher. Avoid drying the inside of the reservoir with a cloth to prevent lint from remaining. To clean the filter screen at the base of the reservoir, empty the reservoir and follow the instructions provided in the manual.
6. Exit Needle: Remove the pod holder assembly and detach the funnel. Locate the exit needle on the inside bottom of the K-Cup® pod holder. Insert a straightened paper clip into the exit needle to loosen any clogs and push them out.
7. Entrance Needle: Lift the brewer handle and locate the entrance needle on the underside of the lid. To clean both holes in the needle, hold the handle in the upward position and carefully insert a straightened paper clip into both holes. Gently move it around to loosen any coffee grounds. Lower the handle completely and run two water-only brew cycles without a K-Cup® pod.
It is also recommended to descale your brewer every 3-6 months to remove mineral deposits. Please refer to the descaling procedure provided in the manual for detailed instructions.
