To install the Murphy Door Quick Kit, please follow these steps:
1. Before starting assembly, make sure to paint the bookcase, jamb, casing, and shelves. Sand them with 180 grit sandpaper prior to painting.
2. Begin by aligning the jamb bottom threshold and one jamb side on a flat surface. Install two 7 x 50mm confirmat screws to secure them. Repeat this step for the jamb top and the remaining side jamb.
3. Place the door jamb into the rough opening, ensuring that the bottom jamb threshold extends into the room towards the back of the bookcase. Make sure the bottom threshold and jamb sides are level.
4. Pre-drill and countersink three holes into each side of the door jamb, 2" from the top, 2" from the bottom, and in the middle. Pre-drill and countersink two holes into the jamb top, 6" from the right and left sides.
5. Install (8) 3" jamb screws using shims where needed to ensure the top and sides of the jamb are level. If installing the jamb into a steel frame, use (8) 3" self-tapping screws instead.
6. Attach the upper jamb hinge to the jamb top using (4) flat head Phillips sharp point 1" screws. For a right-hand door, use the pre-drilled hole on the opposite side for all hinge placements.
7. Install the bottom jamb hinge to the jamb threshold using (5) flat head Phillips sharp point 1" screws.
8. Attach the top hinge plate to the top bookcase assembly using (4) flat head Phillips sharp point 1" screws.
9. Match the bottom pivot hinge to the pre-drilled holes at the bottom of the bookcase assembly. Attach it using (4) flat head Phillips sharp point 1" screws.
10. For a right-hand out-swing door, follow the same steps as above, but use only four screws for the upper jamb hinge. Do not drill into the two holes closest to the edge of the jamb.
11. Install the friction door catch on the door side opposite the hinge, 2" from the back of the door's face frame. Secure it using (4) flat head Phillips sharp point 3/4" screws.
12. Place the door into the door jamb, ensuring the bottom hinge sits in the silver thrust bearing. Press down on the ball lock of the hinge pin to retract the two top pins.
13. For an in-swing door, align the holes of the bookcase top jamb hinge with the holes of the top door hinge. Depress the hinge pin button and insert the hinge pin into the holes, making sure it locks into place.
14. Place the poly wedge where the doorstop carriage bolt will go when the door is closed. Mark out the poly wedge location and secure it with (4) flat head Phillips sharp point 3/4" screws.
15. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the carriage bolt just enough to catch the door catch.
16. Add shelf pins where desired and slide the shelves into place onto the installed shelf pins.
17. Install the casing by attaching the top casing with a 1/2" overhang on the face frame of the door. Attach the right and left side casings with a 1/2" overhang as well. Trim the casings as needed.
18. For an out-swing door, center the top casing over the door, leaving a 1/16" clearance. Attach it using a brad nailer. Trim and attach the right casing onto the door jamb with a 1/2" overhang.
19. Pre-drill and countersink five holes into the left support face frame. Run a bead of glue down the face frame of the door and position the left side casing. Secure it with (5) 1-1/4" truss head screws.
Congratulations! You have completed the installation of the Murphy Door Quick Kit.
