Here is a step-by-step installation guide for the Dynojet Power Commander V on your Yamaha R1 2007-2008:
1. Start by removing the main seat of your bike.
2. Prop up the front of the fuel tank to create room for the installation.
3. Route the Power Commander V harness down the right-hand side of the bike.
4. Loosen the bolts securing the fuel tank bracket to allow space for the Power Commander V harness to fit underneath.
5. Route the Power Commander V harness underneath the fuel tank bracket.
6. Locate the grey 12-pin connector that connects the throttle bodies to the main wiring harness. Unplug this connector.
7. Attach the connectors from the Power Commander V wiring harness to the stock connector.
8. Make sure the connectors are positioned in a way that they won't interfere with the fuel line when the fuel tank is reinstalled.
9. Use the supplied Posi-tap to secure the GREY wire from the Power Commander V to the WHITE wire of the ECU. This wire is from the smaller of the two ECU connectors in position five. The wire location is numbered on the back of the connector.
10. Attach the ground wire from the Power Commander V to the negative side of the battery.
11. Use the supplied velcro to secure the Power Commander V to the top, rear part of the ECU.
12. Clean both surfaces with the alcohol swab before attaching the velcro.
13. Tighten the fuel tank bracket bolts.
14. Lower the fuel tank and reinstall the seats.
Please note that it is recommended to download the latest map files from the Dynojet website at dynojet.com/tunes for optimal performance.
Tuning Notes:
- This bike uses a fly-by-wire system, so conventional tuning cannot be performed for all RPM and throttle ranges.
- When setting the throttle position in the Power Commander V software, it is recommended to reset only the closed position after the bike has completely warmed up. Use the arrow key (<) next to CLOSED to perform this step and then click OK.
- Do not try to set the OPEN position unless you are on a dyno and above 9000 RPM.
- The maps may not have detailed values below 7000 RPM at 100% throttle and below 5250 RPM at 60-80% because the throttle blades will not open more than 60% below this RPM range, regardless of throttle input. Therefore, this area cannot be tuned.
