To install the PROFICIENT AUDIO SYSTEMS C791 2-Way Poly Ceiling Speakers in your ceiling, please follow these step-by-step instructions:
1. Speaker Placement: Before installing the speakers, carefully consider their placement. Ideally, they should be located above the primary listening area. If the speakers are positioned far away from the primary listening area, adjust the pivoting tweeters so they are pointed towards it.
2. Mounting Surface Preparation:
a. New Construction - Unfinished Ceilings: Install a Pre-Construction Bracket across joists (up to 24" on-center) where the speaker will be located. After the hole is cut and the drywall is installed, follow the instructions for mounting in "Finished Ceilings" below.
b. Finished Ceilings: Run cables to the speaker locations before installing the speakers. Ensure the area in the ceiling is free of obstructions such as electrical conduit, HVAC ducts, or water lines. Find the joists nearest the desired speaker mounting location using a stud-finder tool. Mark the hole using the provided template and cut the hole at a 90° angle to the ceiling surface.
3. Speaker Installation:
a. Remove the grille from the speaker baffle.
b. Attach the speaker cable, ensuring proper polarity (+ to + and - to -) with your amplifier.
c. Turn the mounting feet inward to clear the opening and insert the speaker into the ceiling hole. Position the speaker and tighten the four screws on the front of the baffle enough to make the speaker snug against the ceiling. As you tighten the screws, the feet will automatically flip into an outward position, clamping the drywall between the feet and the speaker.
d. Reattach the grille onto the speaker baffle.
4. Speaker Adjustments:
- Tweeter Adjustment: The speakers come from the factory with the tweeter facing straight out from the baffle for the smoothest response. However, you can adjust the tweeter direction based on your listening area, room acoustics, ceiling height, or personal preference. Gently push the edge of the tweeter to point it in the desired direction.
- Tweeter Adjustment (C851, C801, C646 & C641): These models have a switch labeled TREBLE that allows for 3dB of treble adjustment. The default position is "-" for the most linear frequency response. Move the switch to "+" for more treble and back to "-" for the neutral setting.
- Woofer Adjustment (C851, C801, C646 & C641): These models have a switch labeled BASS that allows for 3dB of bass adjustment. The default position is "-" for the flattest bass frequency response. Push the switch to "+" for more bass and back to "-" for the neutral setting.
