To install the PROFICIENT AUDIO SYSTEMS C612 2-Way Poly Ceiling Speakers, follow these step-by-step instructions:
1. Speaker Placement: Before installing the speakers, carefully consider their placement, taking into account the location of electrical, plumbing, and other fixtures. Ideally, the speakers should be located above the primary listening area. If they are positioned far away from the primary listening area, adjust the pivoting tweeters to point towards it.
2. Mounting Surface Preparation: Depending on whether you have a new construction or finished ceilings, follow the appropriate steps:
a. New Construction - Unfinished Ceilings: Install a Pre-Construction Bracket across joists where the speaker will be located. After the hole is cut and the drywall is installed, the speakers can be easily installed following the instructions for mounting in "Finished Ceilings" below.
b. Finished Ceilings: Run cables to the speaker locations before the installation. Ensure that the area of the ceiling where you plan to mount the speakers is free of obstructions such as electrical conduit, HVAC ducts, or water lines. Use a stud-finder tool to locate the joists nearest the desired speaker mounting location. Mark the hole using the provided template and cut the hole at a 90° angle to the ceiling surface.
3. Speaker Installation: Follow these steps to install the speakers:
a. Remove the grille from the speaker baffle.
b. Attach the speaker cable, ensuring proper polarity (+ to + and - to -) with your amplifier.
c. Turn the mounting feet inward to clear the opening and insert the speaker into the ceiling hole. Position the speaker and tighten the four screws on the front of the baffle just enough to make the speaker snug against the ceiling. As you tighten the screws, the feet will automatically flip into an outward position, clamping the drywall between the feet and the speaker.
d. Reattach the grille onto the speaker baffle.
4. Speaker Adjustments: The speakers come with the tweeter facing straight out from the baffle. However, depending on your listening area, room acoustics, ceiling height, or personal preference, you may want to adjust the tweeter direction. Gently push the edge of the tweeter to point it in the desired direction. Note that the tweeters on the C606 model do not pivot.
5. Painting the Grilles: If you plan to paint the grilles, it is recommended to do so before installation. Remove the cloth material from beneath the grille before painting and place it back in position once painted. Be careful not to clog the grille holes with paint, as it can affect the speaker's sound.
