To install the Transgo 1991up Axode Shift Kit, follow the instructions provided in the instruction manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Sun Gear:
- Grind two notches 132" to 116" deep on the end of the sun gear.
- Slide the wire clip over the end of the sun gear and insert the ends into lube holes located in the middle of the gear teeth.
2. Sprocket Support:
- Re-drill the small hole in the inner sleeve using a .187 to .196 drill.
- De-burr the hole inside the support with a file.
- Install the bushing furnished into a lube hole and re-drill the hole in the bushing to .073 to .086.
3. Front Planetary:
- Enlarge the two holes just below the needle bearing using the .110 drill furnished.
- If you can't line up with the holes to drill them, it's okay to drill two new .110 holes.
- Find the lube hole just above the bearing and drill a ¼" hole through a clutch groove in line with the lube hole. Then enlarge the lube hole to ¼".
4. Sprocket Shaft:
- Drill both sides 14" to 38" and deburr inside with a file.
5. 1-2 Servo (on side of trans):
- Install the wire shim in the cover.
6. Channel Casting:
- Install the wire, then the ring on the 2nd Accum Piston.
7. Pump & VB plates:
- Ensure that the VB, 2nd clutch plate type, and computer strategy match. Swapping parts that are not exactly the same may create driving complaints.
- To avoid gasket blowout, glue the gasket to the chain cover and to the case with a good, quick-drying rubber or contact cement. Tighten the cover bolts several times to compress the gasket.
- If the Pump Plate has a hole AF, install the new blue spring and spacer using trans jel to hold the spacer.
- If the Pump Plate has no hole AF, reuse the original spring(s). Do not install a blue spring or spacer.
- For SHO models, reuse the original springs. Do not install a blue spring or spacer.
8. Valve Body Upgrades:
- Drill three .055 holes from left to right through the partition under Xs.
- Drill a .055 hole through the VB web at the angle shown, just under the gasket surface at location Z. Install the cotter pin furnished through the hole and spread out the ends.
- Install the orange spring on the 3-2 control valves.
9. Drainback:
- Depending on the model, either install seven 5/16" plastic balls or six 5/16" plastic balls and a relief valve.
- Install the new boost valve and bushing.
- Install the new lockup valve, bushing, and orange spring.
- Adjust 1-2 firmness with the capacity spring. It is recommended to use the yellow spring for a firmer shift, or the white spring for a softer shift.
- Discard the original fail-safe valve and install the new relief bushing with a ¼" ball and white spring.
- Install the lube valve if the VB had one.
10. Pump Plate, Check balls, Valve Body Plate, Accumulator Springs Identification:
- Refer to the manual for specific instructions and identification details based on the year and model of your vehicle.
