The water filter in the Breville BES870 Espresso Coffee Maker should be replaced every two months to reduce the need for descaling. However, if you live in a hard water area, it is recommended to change the water filter more frequently. To replace the water filter, soak the new filter in water for 5 minutes, rinse it under cold running water, and insert it into the water filter holder. Set the date dial on the holder two months ahead to keep track of when the filter needs to be replaced.
