To start the BERGSTROM J017 Wall Clock, follow these steps:
1. Remove the plastic tab from the battery compartment on the back of the clock, ensuring that the polarities match those shown in the compartment.
2. Insert the included AA battery (1.5v) into the battery compartment. Once inserted, you will see the second hand move clockwise to the 12 o'clock position.
3. Within four minutes, the hour and minute hands will move to the standby position at 12 o'clock.
4. The clock will search to receive the radio signal. If the signal in your area is strong, the clock will set itself within three to ten minutes.
5. If the signal is weak or the clock is unable to receive the signal, the hands will not move. In this case, the clock will try to receive the signal once an hour for the first 24 hours. The signal is often strongest between midnight and 4am due to atmospheric conditions.
6. Once the clock has found the signal and finished setting itself, it will seek out the signal every second hour on the odd hours (1 o'clock, 3 o'clock, etc.) to maintain accuracy.
7. If there is no signal for 24 hours, the clock hands will stop.
8. If there is no signal, try moving the clock to another location to improve signal reception. The antenna is directional, so one location may work better than another.
If you encounter any issues with setting the clock, the following buttons on the back of the clock can be used:
- REC: Pressing this button for more than 5 seconds will force the clock to receive the signal.
- M.SET: If the signal is very weak, pressing this button for 5 seconds will increase the speed at which the clock searches for the signal. Pressing it for 1 second will move the minute hand to the next minute position. If no signal is received, the clock will operate as a normal non-radio controlled clock.
- RESET: Pressing the RESET button will reset the clock and clear the current time. The hands will move to the 12 o'clock position, ready for receiving the signal again.
Please note that it is important to follow the battery safety, usage, and disposal instructions provided by the manufacturer.
