To install the D-Link DGS-1100-10MPP switch, follow these steps:
1. Unpack the contents of the shipping carton and ensure all items are present and undamaged.
2. Inspect the power cord to ensure it is securely connected to the AC power connector.
3. Ensure there is proper heat dissipation and adequate ventilation around the switch. Avoid placing heavy objects on the switch.
4. For desktop or shelf installation, attach the rubber feet included with the device to the bottom corners of the switch's base. Allow sufficient ventilation space around the device.
5. For rack installation, attach the mounting brackets to the switch's side panels using the provided screws. Mount the switch in a standard 19-inch rack using the screws provided with the equipment rack.
6. Connect the switch to a protective ground by following the grounding procedure outlined in the installation guide. This involves attaching a grounding cable to the switch and an appropriate grounding stud or bolt on the rack.
7. Optionally, you can install the power cord retainer to prevent accidental removal of the AC power cord. Instructions for installing the retainer are provided in the installation guide.
8. Plug the AC power cord into the rear of the switch and connect it to a grounded and surge-protected electrical outlet.
9. If there is a power failure, unplug the switch and plug it back in when power is resumed.
For further management and configuration of the switch, you can choose between the Web-based management interface or the D-Link Network Assistant (DNA) utility.
To access the Web-based management interface, connect a PC with an RJ-45 Ethernet connection to any of the switch's ports. Ensure the PC has an IP address in the same range as the switch. Open a web browser and enter the switch's IP address (default: 10.90.90.90) to access the configuration interface. The default password is "admin".
To use the DNA utility for managing multiple switches, you can install it from the provided CD or manually. The utility allows for easy discovery and initial configuration of multiple switches on the same L2 network segment. Detailed installation instructions for DNA can be found in the user manual.
