To install the ELCO Lighting R5H 5 Inch Steel Housing in a ceiling plenum with 2x8 joists or taller, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the housing adjusts in the frame to accommodate the ceiling thickness, which can be up to 1 1/4".
2. Use the pre-installed hanger bars with True Nail to facilitate easy installation. These hanger bars are suitable for regular lumber, engineered lumber, and laminated beams.
3. If you are using T-grids, the housing has integral T-bar slots for easy installation. Position the housing accordingly.
4. The hanger bars can span up to 24" and can be repositioned 90° as needed. Score lines on the hanger bars allow for tool-free size reduction.
5. Align the housing with the joists using the integral leveling flange. This flange allows for single-person installation.
6. Once the housing is properly positioned, secure it by nailing the hanger bars to the joists.
