According to the instruction manual, the cleaning and sterilization process for the VOLK V20LCACSPV lenses is as follows:
1. Cleaning:
- Method A: Clean with a mild detergent and a clean, soft cotton cloth or swab. Clean the lens surface in a clockwise direction to prevent loosening of the retaining ring within the housing. Do not use detergents containing emollients (moisturizers).
- Method B: Clean the glass element with Volk Precision Optical Lens Cleaner (POLC) or a Volk LensPen®. Clean the lens surface in a clockwise direction to prevent loosening of the retaining ring within the housing.
- Method C: Prepare a fresh enzymatic cleaner solution (e.g., Enzol) and soak each lens in the solution for 20 minutes. After soaking, brush the knurled surface on the lens ring with a soft-bristle brush and wipe the lens portion with a soft cloth until all traces of cleaner and soil are removed. Thoroughly rinse the lenses in room temperature tap water until all visible cleaner has been removed. If any remaining debris is observed, repeat the cleaning procedure.
2. Disinfection:
- Disinfection is optional and should only be used as an additional step alongside full sterilization.
- Follow the cleaning instructions mentioned above (Method A or Method C).
- Select a suitable disinfectant solution from the provided table in the manual.
- Immerse the lens completely in the selected disinfectant solution for the recommended minimum soak time. Ensure all lumens and hard-to-reach areas are filled and air pockets are eliminated.
- Thoroughly rinse the lens in a room temperature water bath, manually flushing all lumens or hard-to-reach areas with water. Repeat the rinse procedure two additional times using fresh water.
- Dry the lens with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth.
3. Sterilization:
- Follow the cleaning instructions mentioned above (Method C).
- Steam sterilization is the preferred method. Steam sterilize using a pre-vacuum cycle for 4 minutes at a minimum temperature of 132°C (270°F). It is recommended to use distilled water for steam sterilization to prolong the lens's lifetime. If distilled water is not available, a reverse osmosis (RO) filter is recommended just before the autoclave water intake.
- Alternatively, ethylene oxide sterilization can be used with specific parameters mentioned in the manual.
- Do not sterilize the lenses within standard (black leatherette) lens cases as they are not meant for use in sterilization systems.
It is important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of the VOLK V20LCACSPV lenses.
