To assemble the Ukulele Harley Benton DIY-Kit, follow these steps:
1. Gather the necessary tools and materials, including wood glue, a Phillips screwdriver, rubber bands, clamping or adhesive tape, gloss paints, and sandpaper.
2. Before assembling the Ukulele, you can paint the body with commercial wood paint or decorate it with patterns. Mask the adhesive surface for the bridge before painting. Ensure all surfaces are free of dust and dirt. Carry out painting operations in a well-ventilated, dust-free environment. Apply three or more layers of paint, allowing each layer to dry completely before proceeding. Polish or burnish the body as desired.
3. Glue the neck to the body using a tongue and groove connection. Apply wood glue to the groove, tongue, and the rest of the neck heel that comes into contact with the body. Position the neck on the body and fix it with clamping or adhesive tape. Check the correct position of the neck to the body before the glue joint dries.
4. Glue the fretboard to the neck. Apply wood glue on both surfaces. Position the fretboard on the neck, leaving a 5 mm clear space at the base of the headstock for mounting the nut. Fix the fretboard with rubber rings on the neck to allow the adhesive joint to dry.
5. Glue the nut above the fretboard on the neck. Apply wood glue on both surfaces. Put the nut on the neck and fix it with rubber rings to allow the adhesive joint to dry.
6. Mount the bridge by gluing it and fixing it with two long screws on the soundboard. Mark the correct position of the bridge on the soundboard. Drill two xxxx holes through the blind holes in the bridge and soundboard. Fix the bridge with the supplied long screws, then place the protective caps on the xxxx heads. Insert the saddle into the designated groove of the bridge.
7. Insert the four machine heads from the rear side into the headstock. Fasten the four machine heads with two short screws each. Press the four fixing rings for the machine heads from the front into the respective holes of the headstock.
8. String the Ukulele using the provided set of strings for Hawaiian tuning (G - C - E - A). Tie a knot at one end of each string and insert them into the grooves of the bridge in the correct order. Thread the loose ends of the strings into the holes of the designated machine heads, securely attaching each string with two to three turns to the tuning pins.
9. Check the action of the strings. At the first fret, the distance between the string and the fretboard should be approximately 0.4 mm, and at the twelfth fret, it should be approximately 1.2 mm. Adjust as necessary.
10. Tune the strings using an appropriate tuner or by ear with the help of another instrument.
