The installation process for the TMI POLAR PRO 36" x 96" Swinging Doors is relatively straightforward, but it is recommended to have a helper during the installation. Here is a step-by-step guide based on the instruction manual:
1. Check your order: Determine the thickness of your door jamb to determine the appropriate mounting method. There are three options: inside surface mounting, in-jamb mounting, and wall/in-jamb mounting.
2. Inside Surface Mounting: If you choose this method, make sure the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Place the right bracket mounting plate with the PVC panel attached against the inside right corner of the doorway opening. Mark the 6 holes, remove the unit, drill the holes, and finally, xxxx it down tightly to the interior wall using the supplied screws and washers.
3. In-Jamb Mounting: Again, ensure the door jamb is strong enough. Remove the Wall Mounting Plate from the "U" Bracket. From inside the cooler/freezer, measure 2 1/4" in at the very top of the jamb and place a mark. Draw a straight plumb line 7" down from the mark. Place the "U" Bracket with the PVC panel attached against the jamb, touching the header, and using the line to keep the panel vertically straight. Mark the 4 holes, remove the unit, drill the holes, and finally, xxxx down tightly to the door jamb using the supplied screws and washers. Repeat the same procedure on the other side of the doorway opening.
4. Wall/In-Jamb Mounting: This method is primarily used for non-cooler/freezer doors. Follow the same steps as in the in-jamb mounting method, but reverse the panels from Method #1.
5. Final Adjustments: If the panels are not aligning at the center overlap, loosen the 2 adjusting nuts and move the adjustment plate to one side or the other to force the panel to move in the opposite direction. Once both panels are perpendicular to one another, tighten the adjustment nuts. If the door panels are not returning to a completely sealed position, adjust the cam spring tension by loosening the lock nut and using an allen wrench to move the tension xxxx clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen. Once the proper tension is determined, tighten the locknut.
6. Sealing: If the door panels are too long, cut the bottom of the panel accordingly to prevent buckling and ensure a proper seal. A clearance of 1/8" is recommended.
