The installation process for the TMI POLAR PRO 48" x 108" Swinging Doors is relatively straightforward, but it is recommended to have a helper. Here is a step-by-step guide based on the instruction manual:
1. Check your order: Measure the thickness of your door jamb to determine the appropriate mounting method.
2. In-Jamb Mounting: Ensure that the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Remove the Wall Mounting Plate from the "U" Bracket. Measure 2 1/4'' in at the top of the jamb and mark it. Use a mason's level to draw a straight plumb line 7'' down from the mark. Place the "U" Bracket, with the PVC panel attached, against the jamb, touching the header, and align it with the plumb line. Mark the 4 holes, remove the unit, and drill the holes. Repeat the procedure on the other side of the doorway opening. Finally, xxxx each bracket/panel tightly to the door jamb using the supplied screws and washers.
3. Wall/In-Jamb Mounting: Ensure that the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Place the right Wall Mounting Plate with the PVC panel attached against the inside right corner of the doorway opening. Mark the 6 holes, remove the unit, and drill the holes. Finally, xxxx each unit tightly to the interior wall using the supplied screws and washers.
4. Final Adjustments:
- Centering: If the panels are not aligning at the center overlap, loosen the 2 adjusting nuts (do not remove them). Move the adjustment plate to one side or the other to force the panel to move in the opposite direction. Once both panels are perpendicular to one another, tighten the adjustment nuts.
- Tension: If the door panels are not returning to a completely sealed position, adjust the cam spring tension. Loosen the lock nut at the bottom of the mounting bracket and use an allen wrench to move the tension xxxx clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen. Once the proper tension is determined, tighten the locknut.
5. Inside Surface Mounting: Ensure that the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Place the right bracket mounting plate with the PVC panel attached against the inside right corner of the doorway opening. Mark the 6 holes, remove the unit, and drill the holes. Finally, xxxx each unit tightly to the interior wall using the supplied screws and washers.
6. Sealing: If the door panels are too long, the PVC panel may buckle, allowing cold air to escape. To remedy this, cut the bottom of the panel accordingly, leaving a clearance of 1/8".
