The installation process for the Curtron PP-C-080-4884 Polar-Pro Flexible Swinging Door is relatively straightforward, but it is recommended to have a helper during the installation. Here is a step-by-step guide based on the provided owner's manual:
1. Check your order: Measure the thickness of your door jamb to determine the appropriate mounting method. There are three possible methods described in the manual, depending on the door jamb thickness.
2. Final adjustments: If the door panels are too long, the PVC panel may buckle, allowing cold air to escape. In this case, the bottom of the panel should be cut accordingly, with a recommended clearance of 1/8".
3. In-jamb mounting: If you choose this method, make sure the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Start by removing the Wall Mounting Plate from the "U" Bracket. Then, measure 2 1/4" in at the very top of the jamb and place a mark. Use a mason's level to draw a straight plumb line 7" down from the mark. Place the "U" Bracket with the PVC panel attached against the jamb, touching the header, and align it with the plumb line. Mark the four holes, remove the unit, and drill the holes. Repeat the same procedure on the other side of the doorway opening. Finally, put each bracket/panel in place and xxxx them tightly to the door jamb using the supplied 1/4" x 1 1/2" screws and washers.
4. Wall/in-jamb mounting: Similar to the in-jamb mounting method, ensure that the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Place the right Wall Mounting Plate with the PVC panel attached against the inside right corner of the doorway opening. Mark the six holes, remove the unit, and drill the holes. Make sure the panel can move freely beneath the door header and there is no gap between the door panel and the header. Finally, put each unit in place and xxxx them tightly to the interior wall using the supplied 1/4" x 1 1/2" screws and washers.
5. Centering: If the panels are not aligning at the center overlap, you can make a simple adjustment. Loosen (but do not remove) the two adjusting nuts and move the adjustment plate to one side or the other. This will force the panel to move in the opposite direction. Once both panels are exactly perpendicular to one another, tighten the adjustment nuts.
6. Tension: If the door panels are not returning to a completely sealed position, you may need to adjust the tension. To tighten or loosen the cam spring tension, first, loosen the lock nut at the bottom of the mounting bracket. Then, use an Allen wrench to move the tension xxxx clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen. Once you determine the proper tension, tighten the locknut.
7. Inside surface mounting: Similar to the wall/in-jamb mounting method, ensure that the door jamb is strong enough to support the weight and force of the door. Place the right bracket mounting plate with the PVC panel attached against the inside right corner of the doorway opening.
