To install the TransGo 4L80E-3 Reprogramming Kit, follow the instructions provided in the manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Burnouts: If you want to perform burnouts, follow the instructions provided in the manual. It suggests breaking loose in 1st/2nd gear and then up-shifting to 3rd gear.
2. Transmission Ratios: The manual provides the transmission ratios for each gear. To find the top gear ratio, multiply the axle ratio by 0.75. For other ratios, multiply the axle ratio by the corresponding transmission ratio.
3. Relief Valve Assembly: Prepare the relief valve assembly for installation by installing the yellow spring on the stem end of the valve. Push the stem end of the valve up through the cover while a buddy installs the "E" clip. Be careful as small parts may fly across the shop during assembly.
4. Separator Plate Hole Sizes: Discard the original separator plate and drill holes in the new plate. The manual provides different hole sizes for shift firmness selection. Choose the appropriate hole size based on your preference and vehicle usage.
5. Valve Body Assembly: Follow the instructions provided in the manual to replace the 3rd Accum spring and reassemble the valve body. Install the new white spring in place of the original 3rd Accum spring. Install the gasket, separator plate, and accumulator housing onto the valve body. Align the plate and gasket using bolts in the designated holes. Install the Case gasket and check balls as instructed.
6. PR Springs and Boost Valve: Install the new PR springs, washer, boost valve, and bushing. Depending on the type of PR valve, follow the instructions for installing the spacer. Use the provided stronger 4th bolt and washer for installation.
7. Servo Cover and Piston: Remove the servo cover and piston. Install the new orange spring. If the new spring does not fit, you can reuse the original spring.
8. Final Assembly: Install and tighten the "Z" bolts first. Reinstall the TFP switch assembly and remaining bolts. After tightening all the bolts, remove two bolts and install the relief assembly. If equipped, discard the dip stick stop bracket.
9. Internal Upgrades: If the transmission is apart, follow the instructions in the manual for internal upgrades. This includes replacing the lower retainer springs, installing a new thicker snap ring, and using the Trans Go P/N 48-CCV for corrected oil flow into the converter (for non-lockup converters).
10. Recommended Add-on Parts: The manual suggests additional parts for high-temperature applications and hot-rods. These parts include the 4L80E-HTRK for hi-temp ring and endplay upgrade and the 48-CCV for converting lock-up pump to use with non-lockup converters.
11. Vacuum System Installation: If you are installing the kit in a supercharged or turbocharged engine, you may need a pressure bypass valve in the vacuum tube to prevent high-pressure transmission damage. Follow the instructions in the manual for installing the vacuum line using a 3/16 brake line and a short piece of vacuum hose.
