To configure the Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series System, follow these steps:
1. Choose the appropriate Cisco HX-Series Server for your configuration. You can select from converged nodes (all flash or hybrid) or compute-only nodes.
2. Download the Cisco HX Data Platform Installer and install it on a server connected to the storage cluster. This installer will configure the service profiles and policies within Cisco UCS Manager, deploy the controller VMs, install the software, create the storage cluster, and update the VMware vCenter plug-in.
3. Use the HX Data Platform Installer to install the storage controller VM on each converged node in the managed storage cluster.
4. Connect the Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects (FI) to provide network connectivity and management capabilities to the HX-Series Server. Supported Fabric Interconnects include Cisco UCS 6200, 6300, and 6400 Series.
5. Optionally, you can also integrate Cisco Nexus Switches for high-density, configurable ports for flexible access deployment and migration.
6. Once the hardware components are set up, you can manage the Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series System using Cisco UCS Manager, Cisco HX Data Platform, and VMware vCenter.
7. Cisco UCS Manager is embedded software that provides complete configuration and management capabilities for the HX-Series Server. It supports role-based access control and allows for consistent configuration across all HX-Series servers.
8. Cisco HX Data Platform is a hyperconverged software appliance that transforms Cisco servers into a single pool of compute and storage resources. It eliminates the need for network storage and tightly integrates with VMware vSphere for seamless data management.
9. VMware vCenter is a data center management server application that allows you to monitor virtualized environments. It provides key shared storage features like vMotion, DRS, HA, and vSphere replication. The HX Data Platform is accessed through vCenter to perform storage tasks.
10. For a user-friendly interface to manage the Cisco HyperFlex System, you can use Cisco HyperFlex Connect (HX Connect). It provides a navigation pane on the left and a work pane on the right, allowing you to perform various administrative tasks.
