Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install the Polaris Ranger XP 900/570 winch mount:
1. Prepare the machine: Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery cables. Remove the ground (Black) and positive (Red) terminals from the battery compartment.
2. Affix the contactor: Open the hood and find the recommended contactor location. Attach the contactor to the recommended location using the hardware included with your winch. If the wires are too short, you can drill holes on the opposite side of the hood compartment and affix the contactor there.
3. Install the mini-rocker switch: Use the included Mini-Rocker Switch Hardware Kit (HK-031) to mount a handlebar-mounted mini-rocker switch to the dash or any desired location. Follow the instructions provided in Figure 2.
4. Rotate the winch leads (if necessary): If your winch has leads on the end of the motor in a vertical orientation, you will need to rotate the leads to avoid interference with the bumper frame. Loosen the screws on the endcap of the winch motor housing and rotate the housing 90 or 45 degrees. For detailed instructions, refer to the "Winch Motor Lead Rotation Instructions" available on the manufacturer's website.
5. Connect the winch wires: Connect the shortest wires (usually Red and Black) to the motor end of the winch following the alternate wiring diagram shown in Figure 15. Connect the Black wire to the negative (-) Blue winch post and the Red wire to the positive (+) Yellow winch post.
6. Assemble the winch to the mount plate: Attach your winch to the mount plate using the appropriate bolt pattern for your winch. Most winches will be installed upside down with the clutch end on the passenger side of the machine and the motor on the driver's side.
7. Install the winch/mount assembly and grill: Remove the front bumper and the OEM plastic grill. Install the replacement grill using the original Torx screws. If you have a two-hole or standard winch, use the converter bracket and install the fairlead bolt supplied with the winch. If you have a wide winch, discard the converter bracket and install the bolt directly to the grill and fairlead.
8. Fasten the winch/mount assembly to the machine frame: Lift the assembled winch and mount into position on the machine frame. Fasten it to the frame using the provided bolts and nuts at the specified positions. Start with the top bolts first to make installation easier. Tighten all hardware evenly.
9. Reassemble the bumper: Reattach the front bumper using the bolts removed earlier. Loosely affix the nuts to allow for final adjustment of the grill to the mount plate. Fasten the grill to the mount using the included flange bolts.
10. Route the wires: Route the longest wires from the battery to the contactor location, passing through the opening to the battery compartment and through the front footwell. Route the switch wiring behind the front dash and through a wiring grommet located behind the glove box.
11. Finalize the wiring: Attach the ignition-fed wire from your switch to the designated post on the contactor. Connect the wires to the contactor according to the alternate winch wiring diagram shown in Figure 15. Secure all wires, reconnect the battery positive and ground cables, and replace any access panels and shrouds that were removed during the installation.
