To set up the Sealey MIGHTYMIG250.V2 welder for gas welding, please follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the machine is switched off and unplugged from the mains supply before starting.
2. Connect the earth lead securely to the workpiece that is to be welded. Make sure the contact surface is clean and free of paint, rust, grease, etc.
3. Install the gas cylinder onto the rear platform of the welder. Use the fixing chain to secure the cylinder in place.
4. Attach the gas regulator to the gas cylinder. If you are using CO² gas, xxxx the regulator directly onto the threads of the gas bottle. If you are using Argon gas or Argon mixtures, use a Bull Nose Adaptor to attach the regulator to the cylinder.
5. Slide a worm drive hose clip over each end of the gas hose supplied. Push one end of the hose onto the regulator outlet and the other end over the gas inlet spigot on the back of the welder. Tighten the clips to ensure a good seal.
6. Close the regulator valve by turning it anticlockwise before opening the cylinder valve. Stand to one side when opening the cylinder valve.
7. Connect the earth clamp cable to the welder by inserting the dinse plug on the end of the cable into the earthing socket on the bottom left-hand corner of the welder front cover. Turn the plug 90º to lock it in place.
8. Connect the torch cable to the welder by aligning the pins on the Euro connector with the socket on the welder front panel. Push the connector into the socket and rotate the locking ring clockwise to secure it.
9. Fit a reel of welding wire onto the spool holder. Ensure that the wire diameter matches the correct groove size in the drive wheel and the correct tip size on the torch. Unscrew the locking xxxx from the end of the spool holder, slide the reel onto the spool holder, and engage the clutch pin into the guide hole in the wire reel molding.
10. Feed the wire through the torch by opening the wire feed mechanism. Straighten about 40-50mm of wire and gently push it through the flexible metal sheathed cable and into the torch cable liner. Close the wire feed mechanism by pushing the locking/wire tension xxxx down and rotating it to a medium tension setting.
11. Check the tension between the feed rollers by slowing down the wire between gloved fingers. If the top feed roller skids, the tension is correct. Adjust the tension by rotating the wire tension xxxx clockwise to increase tension or counterclockwise to decrease tension.
12. Check that the clutch is adjusted correctly by turning on the machine and setting the wire speed to maximum. Depress the torch switch and release it quickly. If the spool overruns, tighten the clutch nut located in the center of the wire spool holder with a spanner until the wire stops overrunning.
13. The welder is now set up for gas welding. Adjust the power output switch, welder controls, and gas flow rate according to the material and thickness you are welding.
